The
Endonian Society was formed in 1961
The current membership of the society is 105
The objects of the society are to collect and place on record the
history of Endon, to preserve the identity of the Parish of Endon, to
promote the well being, good fellowship and social welfare of all parish
owners.
The society has an active archivists group who meet on a monthly basis
who are currently cataloguing the many historical records in the
Society’s possession. The records include photographic, written, video
and audio records.
To promote the history of the parish and its neighbours, the Society has
held several exhibitions in the village hall and high school. The
exhibitions are organised to display many of the society’s historical
records and to promote many of the active Social Groups both within the
parish and also historical organisations based within North
Staffordshire
The very important office held within the Society is that of Recorder.
The Recorder has researched various aspects of Endon’s past and has
presented papers at our Society’s Annual dinner. These reports known as
“The Recorder’ s Remarks” have been retained from the formation of the
society and have created a very detailed historical report of Endon’s
past, and a concise diary of events and the many changes that have
influenced the development of the parish during the past 45 years.
The Society organises a number of social events in the parish. There is
an annual walk in April each year, a mystery trip held in June and a
daytrip that takes place in July or August.
The Society holds its Annual General Meeting in September, followed in
October by the annual dinner. The Society holds a Band and Carol Concert
in December. Continuing the spirit of Christmas, the Society erects a
Nativity Scene and decorates the Village Well and a Christmas tree with
festive lights. In recent years members and villagers hold an evening of
carol singing in the village at Christmas time.
Members of the society are very active during the Annual Village Well
Dressing in helping to support
the Well Dressing Committee ensuring an action filled three day event
during May. A stall is set up in the village by the Well on a Sunday
morning to promote the activities of the Society.
Running costs of the Society are met by membership subscriptions,
currently £5.00 per annum
When profits are made on functions donations are given to various
charities. The name of the Endonian Society is listed on the handicapped
children’s boat ‘Beatrice’ as one of the three organisations which
provided funds for this project.
The Society has held several fund raising concerts in the Village Hall;
substantial funds have been provided to help the new management
committee to repair and refurbish the Village Hall. To
enable the Society to continue and flourish it needs to recruit new
members who are prepared to take an active part in activities of the
Society. Membership
is open to males aged 18 or over who :-
or
or
are
former residents who have retained a special interest in the parish.
